Founded in 2012, SJM CONSULTING is a boutique sports management advisory firm providing services for cities and organisations in the fields of sports, physical activity, leisure, tourism, health and well-being.
At SJM CONSULTING, we believe sports and physical activity are essential drivers in achieving several of the United Nations' SDGs, in particular goal numbers 3, 5, 10, 11, 13 and 17, as well as in successfully implementing UNESCO's Kazan Action Plan and the WHO's GAPPA and Guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behaviour.
As population hubs, cities play a key role in promoting a sustainable, healthy lifestyle through physical activity and sport, with active university campuses, active schools and workplaces, as well as intelligent mobility and sustainable neighbourhoods being the cornerstones.
Steve Marsden, the Founding Associate of SJM CONSULTING, has dedicated his working life to the management of leisure, tourism, sports, physical activity, health and well-being.
Steve started his first business, Marsden Bros. (Pte.) Ltd. in Singapore in 1993, with his brother Jason. The brothers ran a scuba diving school and liveaboard dive cruise business for 10 years.

In 2009, Steve became director of the Green Club, a multi-sports centre in Romanel-sur-Lausanne in Switzerland.
With the founding of SJM CONSULTING in 2012, Steve began working for small companies and non-governmental organisations dedicated to promoting the benefits of sports and physical activity for health and well-being.
As a member of the Evaleo network of experts, Steve contributed to the development of the Global Active City (GAC) standard and label and accompanied a group of seven pilot cities on their journey to becoming the world's first Global Active Cities, ensuring long-lasting behavioural change among their residents.
